SLU Rallies for 3-1 Win over NDSU

Schneider's bomb helps Southeastern (20-7) improve to 10-0 at home

HAMMOND, La. – The reigning Southland Conference Tournament champion Southeastern Louisiana University softball team used a three-run sixth inning to rally for a 3-1 victory over North Dakota State in nonconference action Tuesday night at North Oak Park.

Southeastern (20-7) improved to 10-0 at home this season with the win over the visiting Bison. Blair Walsh tied the game with an RBI triple, then Cydnee Schneider provided the game-winning runs with her second home run of the season.

The Lady Lions finished with eight hits in the win, as Chloe Magee and Kailey Dixon led SLU with two hits apiece. The Southeastern offense backed up excellent pitching performances by reigning SLC Pitcher of the Week Macie LaRue and Hallie Burns (6-2), who limited NSDU to four hits in Tuesday's victory.

LaRue retired the first 14 batters she faced, as she and NDSU starter Addie Bowers (2-5) matched zeroes through the first five innings. The Bison took advantage of two SLU errors in the top of the sixth inning to break the scoreless tie and take a 1-0 lead.

With one out and a runner on first in the bottom of the sixth, Walsh roped a triple over the head of Bison right fielder Chloe Woldruff to score Maria Detillier and tie the game at 1-1. After Brilee Ford came in to run for Walsh, Schneider lined the first pitch she saw from Bowers off the scoreboard in right centerfield to give SLU a 3-1 lead.

Burns shook off a one-out single by Woldruff to get out of the seventh inning unscathed. Dixon ran down a fly ball by Jasmyn Yessian for the second out, then Burns struck out pinch hitter Taylinn Warren looking to secure the Lady Lions' fourth straight victory and ninth win in their last 10 outings.

The only two teams in the Southland Conference yet to suffer a league loss meet this week in Houston, as SLU travels to HCU for a three-game set. The series opens with a 4 p.m. doubleheader Friday and concludes with a noon contest Saturday. Saturday's game will be televised on ESPN+.
