Southeastern Falls to McNeese in Southland Play

SLU (10-4, 2-3 SLC) has three-match win streak snapped

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to Southland Conference foe McNeese Saturday afternoon at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.

Southeastern (10-4, 2-3 SLC) saw its three-match winning streak ended. The Cowgirls improved to 15-4 overall and evened their league record at 2-2.

"We really wanted this one and came out fired up," Southeastern head coach Jason Hayes commented. "When we fell behind early our energy level dipped and that's not something you can overcome against a quality team like McNeese. As we enter the final month of the regular season, we need to let our passion and emotions work for us and not against us."

McNeese opened the match by taking the doubles point. The Cowgirls earned wins on courts 1 and 3 to claim a 1-0 lead.

Aitana Darder (9-3, 3-2 SLC) picked up the lone point for the Lions in singles play. The freshman took down Ariane Monlleo Sanchis, 7-6 (7-4), 6-4, on court 5. However, McNeese countered with straight-set wins on the other five courts to secure the victory.

SLU will take a week off before facing Missouri in a 2 p.m. neutral site match on the LSU campus March 30.
