YOUNGSVILLE, La. – The reigning Southland Conference Tournament champion Southeastern Louisiana University softball team claimed two shutout victories on day two of the Mardi Gras Mambo Saturday at the Youngsville Sports Complex.

In the opener, Southeastern (15-6) earned a 2-0 shutout victory over West Georgia (6-6). Britney Lewinski (3-3) scattered four hits and struck out seven on the way to her second complete-game shutout of the season. Brilee Ford and Shelby Morris led SLU at the plate with two hits apiece.

SLU blanked Army (7-7), 5-0, in the nightcap. Macie LaRue (5-0), Lainee Bailey and Hallie Burns combined to hold the Black Knights to one hit in the win. Shenita Tucker and Maddie Watson led the Lady Lions at the plate with three hits each.

Southeastern will close out the tournament Sunday, facing Monmouth at 10 a.m. Live stats will be available at www.lionsports.net/sidearmstats/softball.

Game One – Southeastern 2, West Georgia 0
Southeastern took the lead against UWG starter Calli Hardison in the bottom of the first inning. Tucker beat out an infield single to lead off the inning, stole second and moved to third on a throwing error. After Chloe Magee walked and stole second to put a pair of runners on with no outs. A deep fly ball by Maria Detillier scored Tucker, then Brilee Ford executed a perfect squeeze bunt to score Magee and give SLU a 2-0 advantage.

The offenses were shut down for the remainder of the game. West Georgia's best threat was in the fourth, when the Wolves loaded the bases with three singles. Lewinski forced Dixiana Sims to pop out to keep UWG off the board, then retired the Wolves in order over the final three innings to nail down the shutout.

Game Two – Southeastern 5, Army 0
Southeastern got on the board in the bottom of the second without the benefit of a hit. Ford drew a leadoff walk, moved all the way to third on a wild pitch and scored on a Cydnee Schneider ground out to give SLU the early 1-0 advantage. In the third, Tucker roped a triple into the left centerfield gap and scored on a Magee groundout to extend the lead to 2-0.

Tucker struck again in the bottom of the fourth, as her bases loaded double scored two more to give SLU a 4-0 cushion. Detillier led off the fifth with a single and was singled home by Watson to put the Lady Lions up, 5-0.

LaRue gave up a leadoff single to Taylor Brown in the top of the first inning, then she, Bailey and Burns combined to retire the final 21 Black Knight batters of the game.
