HAMMOND, La. – Brennan Stuprich and
Triston Todorowski combined to shut out Alcorn State in non-conference action Friday at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field as the Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team run-ruled the Braves, 10-0, in seven innings.
Southeastern (5-1) once again jumped out in front early.
Ryan Brome led off the bottom of the first inning with a solo home run to right field. It was his fourth of the season and marked the second time this season he has led off a game with a home run.
The Lions picked up a pair of runs in the second.
Dane Watts drove in
Ben Robichaux with an RBI double to center field. Watts would later score on a balk.
Stuprich worked out of jams in the third and fifth as SLU continued to pile on runs.
Watts scored on a ground out in the fourth and then drove in a pair with a one-out triple to right in the fifth. Sandwiched in between was a leadoff homer for designated
Conner O'Neal.
Robichaux plated
Mo Little with an RBI single in the sixth and Watts scored the final run on
Giovanni Licciardi's pinch-hit single in the seventh.
Stuprich (2-0) earned the win, surrendering five hits and a pair of walks in five innings of work. He struck out seven batters, giving him 20 through his first two appearances. Todorowski worked the final two innings, striking out a pair of batters.
Alcorn (0-3) starting pitcher Hunter Bell (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing four runs – three earned – in 4.0 innings pitched. He surrendered five hits and five walks, striking out one.
Watts (4-for-4) and Robichaux (2-for-3) turned in multi-hit performances at the plate for Southeastern. Watts scored four runs and drove in three. He is the first Lion to score four runs in a game since
Jude Hall accomplished the feat last season, May 12, 2024, at UIW.
