Southeastern Earns Southland Road Sweep at New Orleans

SLU (17-6, 9-2 SLC) wins fourth straight on first leg of this week's home-and-home versus UNO

NEW ORLEANS – The two-time reigning Southland Conference regular season champion Southeastern Louisiana University indoor volleyball team extended its winning streak to four matches with a 25-15, 25-18, 25-23 SLC victory over New Orleans Tuesday evening in the Human Performance Center.

Southeastern (17-6, 9-2 SLC) posted its fourth straight sweep, hitting .241 and holding UNO (7-17, 2-9 SLC) to a .161 hitting percentage for the match.

Reigning Southland Offensive Player of the Week Kyra McKelvey led SLU with 13 kills, while the league's reigning Defensive Player of the Week India Bennett joined her in double figures with 10 kills of her own on just 14 swings to finish with a .643 hitting percentage. Peyton Stokley led the Lady Lions with 21 assists, while fellow setter Ashley Richardson added 15.

Bennett and Ayla Klingenberg paced the Southeastern defensive effort with three blocks apiece. Lily Morgan and Audrey Vielguth shared team-high honors with 10 digs apiece for SLU.

Alessandra Meoni and Laura Piva led the way for the Privateers with eight kills apiece. Rylie Hallman (18 assists) and Vanae Sapp (12 digs) were the other leaders for UNO.

Southeastern came out strong in the opening set, hitting .385 to take the early 1-0 lead. McKelvey finished with five kills, while Bennett and Alexis Logarbo added four kills apiece in the opening period.

Bennett and Morgan added three kills apiece in set two to build the Lady Lion lead. SLU took advantage of seven second-set errors by New Orleans to take a two-set advantage.

The Privateers did their best to stave off a sweep in a highly-competitive third set that featured 11 ties and seven lead changes. However, McKelvey's six kills in the final set allowed Southeastern to claim the first of two meetings with the Privateers.

Tuesday's match was the first of a home-and-home series this week between SLU and UNO. The Privateers will visit the University Center Thursday for a 6:30 p.m. match, which can be seen on ESPN+ and heard on KSLU 90.9 The Lion. Thursday is also Greek and Student Organization Night in the UC.
