Both Lions Teams Run to Sixth-Place at Nicholls Invitational

Lions, Lady Lions Run Well in Large Field in Thibodaux

THIBODAUX, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University cross country teams both ran themselves to a sixth-place finish Saturday morning at the Sixth Annual Nicholls Cross Country Invitational, presented by Walk-Ons, at the Nicholls Farm.
 
Up first was the Lady Lions, running a 5K course. The first SLU runner to cross the finish line was Ava Pitarro who stopped the clock in 18:54.75, the 18th runner overall to complete the course. Next to come home for Southeastern was Cayden Boudreaux, who hit the line in 20:50.74. Laney Wilkes was the third Lady Lion in, finishing in 20:57.76.
 
Isabella Latkovich was the next one home, finishing in 21:34.64. The final scorer for the Lady Lions on the day was Anthonate Barsai, who stopped the clock in 22:36.16. The final Lady Lion to finish was Kayten Zeigler, ending things in 23:31. 93. The Lady Lions earned 196 points on the day for the sixth-place finish.
 
The Lions were next, looking to run four miles as quickly as possible. The first SLU runner to do so was Euan Lagan, who finished in 21st with a time of 21:13.76. Second home for Southeastern was Landen Schillage, completing the course in 22:07.89. Schillage was the first of four-straight Lions to cross the finish line overall as Bryce Johnson completed the course right behind Schillage in a time of 22:11.13. Joel Boerkey was right on Johnson's heels, stopping the clock in 22:11.74. Tanner Salsman completed the run of successive SLU finishers, finishing the course in 22:16.91, also making him the final scorer for Southeastern.
 
Triston Watford was the next Lion to finish, stopping the clock in 24:08.68. He was followed by Manny Portillo in 26:05.56. Southeastern's final runner to finish was Darian Chestnut, who stopped the clock in 26:32.13. SLU ended the day with a team score of 160 points, good for sixth-place in the men's competition.
 
Southeastern now has a few weeks off before the final race prior to the Southland Conference Championships, the Watson College Invitational which is hosted by Mississippi College. The Watson College Invitational is set to take place on Fri., Oct. 18th in Clinton, Miss. at the Choctaw Trails. The Lions will run an 8K course to start the day at 8 a.m. while the starting pistol will send the Lady Lions off at 8:45 a.m. on a 6K course.
