SLU Finishes Third & Second at LSU Invitational

Lions & Lady Lions Compete in Rare Cross Country Relay Against LSU & Southern

BATON ROUGE, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University cross country team paired up on Friday morning and earned a third-place finish from the Lions and second-place finish by the Lady Lions at the LSU Invitational at the LSU University Recreational Field Complex.
 
Up first was the men's relay, where teams of two each ran a 4K route. The first team to finish for the Southeastern was Landen Schillage and Euan Lagan with Lagan stopping the clock for a sixth-place finish in 25:24.03. Triston Watford was the next Lion to cross the finish line, stopping the clock for he and Bryce Johnson at 27:27.64 in 10th- place. Right behind Watford was Darian Chestnut, stopping the clock for he and Tanner Salsman at 28:19.70, just a nose ahead of Manny Portillo, who finished at 28:19.77 for an 12th-place finish for he and Joel Boerkey to round out the field for SLU. The Lions earned 39 points, earning a third-place finish on the day.
 
The women's relay finished the day with a teams of two running 3K each. Laney Wilkes was the first Lady Lion to stop the clock for her team on the day, clocking a time of 23:45.18 and a 10th-place finish for her and Ava Pitarro. The last two Southeastern pairs finished back-to-back with Anthonate Barsai finishing off a 25:50.13 trip around the course for her and Isabella Latkovich to finish 12th while Kayten Zeigler stopped the clock at 26:12.16 for the team of her and Cayden Boudreaux with a 13th-place finish to round out SLU's day. As a team, the Lady Lions finished with 27 points, finishing in second-place.
 
The Lions now enjoy a week and rest and recovery before tacking the Nicholls Cros Country Invitational on Sat., Sept. 28. The women will start with a 5K race at 8 a.m. while the men will run a four-mile course at 8:30 a.m. at the Nicholls Farm.
