Women to Run 4K Course, Men to Tackle 5K Route Friday Evening

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University cross country team gets its first run of 2024 on Friday evening down in the Crescent City as the Lions take part in the Battle for New Orleans, co-hosted by New Orleans and Tulane.

The Lady Lions start the evening by running a 4K course with the starting pistol going off at 5:15 pm. SLU's men's team will tackle a 5K course to open its season with the gun sounding at 5:45 pm. Live results will be available through ArrowLiveResults.com.

The Lions are bolstered this season by the return of its NCAA Regional qualifier from a season ago, Euan Lagan. Lagan leads a solid number of returning runners for this year's squad, which includes Joel Boerkey, Courtlin Baunchand, Darian Chestnut, Manny Portillo, Landen Schillage, and Triston Watford.

SLU's men's team has several freshmen looking to make their mark, Bryce Johnson and Tanner Salsman.

Southeastern's women's team is relying on the senior leadership of Anthonate Barsai to lead a young group of Lady Lions which includes fellow returners Alivia Buley, Ava Pitarro, and Laney Wilkes, all of which are sophomores.

The Lady Lions have several freshmen bolstering its roster this season with Cayden Boudreaux, Isabella Latkovich, and Kayten Zeigler all getting their first collegiate runs in this season for SLU.

Friday's Battle for New Orleans is one of four scheduled meets for Southeastern prior to the Southland Conference Championships, which will also be in New Orleans this season.
