Southeastern Claims SLC Series Win With Doubleheader Sweep at Islanders

SLU (32-7, 9-2 SLC) extends win streak to nine, earns 13th straight SLC series victory

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Southeastern Louisiana University softball team extended its win streak to nine games with a doubleheader sweep of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in Southland Conference action Saturday afternoon at Chapman Field.
 
Southeastern (32-7, 9-2 SLC) secured its 13th consecutive SLC series victory dating back to 2022 with the road wins over the Islanders (19-13, 7-7 SLC).
 
Cera Blanchard (12-1) allowed one hit in six innings in a 3-0 SLU victory in the opener, winning her ninth consecutive decision. Mary-Cathryn (MC) Comeaux tossed a scoreless seventh to earn her third save of the season.
 
In the opener, Ka'Lyn Watson, Lexi Johnson and Cam Goodman each had two hits apiece. Ka'Lyn Watson, Audrey Greely and Colleen Kulivan each collected RBI in the win.
 
Southeastern busted open the game with a six-run seventh in a 9-2 win in the nightcap. Ka'Lyn Watson led the Lady Lions with three hits, as she, Bailey Krolczyk and Brilee Broussard each drove in two runs.
 
SLU senior Ellie DuBois (11-3) struck out four and didn't allow an earned run in four innings of work to claim the victory. Allison Brunson tossed two scoreless innings of relief to earn her first save as a Lady Lion.
 
Southeastern will look to complete the series sweep Saturday at noon. The series finale will be televised on ESPN+.
 
Game One – Southeastern 3, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 0
SLU took the lead in the top of the second against Islander ace Primrose Aholelei (13-6). Greely doubled home  Broussard for the inning's first run, then scored on an RBI single by Kulivan to give Southeastern a 2-0 lead.
 
The Islanders mounted their best threat against Blanchard in the bottom of the fourth inning, drawing back-to-back one-out walks. Blanchard recovered to retire Paolina Baez and Crystal Davila to keep the Islanders off the board.
 
Southeastern added to its lead in the top of the sixth inning. Ka'Lyn Watson singled home Kulivan to put the Lady Lions up, 3-0.
 
Comeaux made the lead stand up in the seventh inning. She shook off a two-out triple by Sidney Campion, retiring Felixia Hinojosa to close out the 11th shutout victory of the season for SLU.
 
Game Two – Southeastern 9, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 2
Both DuBois and Texas A&M-CC starter Ariella Saenz (2-3) pitched out of jams in the first two innings, before Southeastern broke the tie in the top of the third. Ka'Lyn Watson and Chloe Magee opened the frame with consecutive bunt singles, then scored on consecutive RBI groundouts by Detillier and Krolczyk to put SLU up, 2-0.
 
Ka'Lyn Watson added to the Lady Lion lead in the top of the fourth inning. The Missouri City, Texas native singled, then stole second and scored on a Islander error to put the Lady Lions up, 3-0.
 
The Islanders scored a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the fifth. Chloe Bennett retired Sydney Hoyt to end the threat and maintain SLU's 3-2 advantage.
 
Southeastern sent 11 to the plate in a six-run top of the seventh inning. Ka'Lyn Watson tripled home the first two runs of the inning, followed by consecutive RBI singles by Addison Contorno and Krolczyk. Broussard singled home the final two runs of the inning to give SLU a 9-2 lead.
 
Brunson made it stand up, retiring the Islanders in order to close out the sweep.
