Tulane Pulls Away Late in Win over Lions

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Tulane scored five runs in its final two trips to the plate, pulling away with a 13-6 win Tuesday over the Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team in non-conference action at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.

Southeastern (22-22) struck first as Parker Coley led off the game with a home run to left field. The solo shot was his seventh of the season.

The Green Wave (25-20) scored single runs in the first and second, taking a 2-1 lead.

A solo homer by TJ Salvaggio tied the game in the fourth. It was his team-leading 10th of the season. The Lions scratched across an unearned run later in the inning to take the lead.

With SLU leading 3-2, Tulane scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth to regain the lead and added three more over the next two innings.

Down 8-3, the Lions rallied for three runs in the seventh.

Cole Stromboe drew a leadoff walk before Coley greeted reliever Jake Saum with a double to center field. Stromboe later scored on Ryan Brome's RBI groundout and Coley scored on Shea Thomas' sacrifice fly to center.

Jake Killingsworth kept the inning alive with a two-out single through the right side, advancing to third after back-to-back walks by Salvaggio and Jake Haze. Killingsworth scored on a wild pitch by reliever Trey Cehajic to pull the Lions within a pair, 8-6.

From that point forward, the Green Wave expanded their lead with a pair of runs in the seventh and three more in the eighth.

Tulane reliever Jonah Wachter (1-0) picked up the win, allowing one run – it was earned – in 2.1 innings pitched. Carson Robb (3-1) suffered the loss, allowing five runs – all earned – in 3.1 innings of work.

Coley (3-for-5) turned in a multi-hit performance at the plate for SLU.
