LAFAYETTE, La. – The No. 14-ranked Ragin' Cajuns of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette downed the Southeastern Louisiana University baseball squad, 8-1, Wednesday at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park, sweeping back-to-back games against the Lions.
Southeastern (19-19) and the Ragin' Cajuns (30-9) were locked in a scoreless game until the bottom of the fourth when a leadoff home run by ULL left fielder Conor Higgs sparked a four-run inning.
Higgs homered again his next trip up, putting the Ragin' Cajuns on top, 5-0, in the fifth.
Down, 7-0, in the eighth, SLU catcher
Conner O'Neal launched a towering home run to right field. The solo shot was O'Neal's third of the season.
ULL starting pitcher Blake McGehee (2-1) earned the win, tossing five shutout innings.
Aiden Vosburg (0-3) suffered the loss, allowing four runs – three earned – in 3.2 innings pitched.
O'Neal (2-for-3) turned in a multi-hit performance at the plate for the Lions.
