HAMMOND, La. – HCU shut out the Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team, 7-0, Saturday at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field, claiming the final two games of the Southland Conference series.
Both starters were locked in a scoreless duel until HCU (9-18, 2-4 SLC) scratched across a run in the fourth inning off
Will Kinzeler.
The Huskies added another run in the fifth before a pair of homers led to four more runs in the sixth, pushing the HCU advantage to 6-0 over Southeastern (18-10, 3-3 SLC).
Rye Gunter, the Huskies' starting pitcher, tossed five innings of no-hit, no-run baseball before handing the ball over to the bullpen.
Southeastern broke the no-hit bid in the sixth, but a double play ended the inning. Another single in the seventh led to a stranded runner as HCU reliever Jett Feltman retired the final seven batters in the game, earning his first save of the season.
Gunter (1-0) earned the win. Kinzeler (1-2) suffered the loss, allowing one run in 3.2 innings pitched.
