HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University softball team earned a 4-0 shutout victory over HCU in the rubber game of its Southland Conference series Saturday afternoon at North Oak Park.
With the victory, Southeastern (24-7, 7-2 SLC) won its 12
th consecutive Southland Conference series dating back to 2022. The Lady Lions' 10
th shutout victory of the season dropped HCU to 14-13 overall and 1-5 in conference play.
Ellie DuBois (8-3) struck out seven and scattered six hits in six scoreless innings of work to earn the win in the circle.
Cera Blanchard hurled a perfect seventh to close out the victory.
Bailey Krolczyk led SLU at the plate, finishing 2-for-2 with a double and two RBI.
Maria Detillier added a triple and scored a pair of runs for Southeastern.
The Lady Lions scored all the runs they would need in the bottom of the first inning. HCU starter Katy Janes (4-2) walked the first three batters of the game before giving way to Lyndie Swanson. Krolczyk doubled home the inning's first run, then SLU stretched the lead to 2-0 on a run-scoring groundout by
Maddie Watson.
SLU added to its lead in the bottom of the fourth, as Greely beat out an infield single, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Colleen Kulivan and scored on a Husky error. In the fifth, Detillier led off the frame with a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly by Krolczyk to put Southeastern up, 4-0.
DuBois quelled every HCU threat, stranding a pair of runners in the second, third and fifth innings. Blanchard needed just seven pitches to close out the shutout in the seventh.
Southeastern will now take a break from SLC play and head to the West Coast. SLU opens the five-game California trip with a 6 p.m. doubleheader Wednesday at Pacific. The Lady Lions face Pacific in a 6 p.m. single game Thursday and close out the trip with an 11 a.m. doubleheader at Santa Clara Friday. All five games will be televised on ESPN+.
