STOCKTON, Calif. – The Southeastern Louisiana University softball team opened its five-game West Coast trip with a nonconference doubleheader sweep of Pacific Wednesday afternoon at Bill Simoni Field.
Southeastern (26-7) opened the day with a 6-3 victory over the host Tigers (10-24). In the nightcap, SLU shook off an early deficit and a nearly-hour long rain delay for an 11-2 run-rule victory.
The Lady Lions collected 11 hits in game one.
Audrey Greely homered and drove in three runs, while
Colleen Kulivan and
Bailey Krolczyk shared the team lead with three hits apiece.
Chloe Bennett (3-1) allowed two hits in 4.1 innings of work to earn the win in the circle.
Cera Blanchard tossed 2.2 scoreless innings of relief to collect her fourth save of the season.
In the nightcap, Krolczyk doubled, homered and drove in four RBI to pace the Southeastern offense.
Ka'Lyn Watson and
Sadie Hewitt each drove in a pair of runs for the Lady Lions.
Mary-Cathryn (MC) Comeaux (3-2) held the Tigers to three hits to earn the win in the circle.
SLU and Pacific will wrap up their three-game series Thursday with a 4 p.m. (CDT) contest that will be televised on ESPN+.
Game One – Southeastern 6, Pacific 3
Southeastern took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first off Pacific starter Scarlett Lloyd (3-3). Krolczyk doubled home the inning's first run, then scored on an RBI by
Maddie Watson.
Pacific loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the first inning against Bennett, then Jordan Hayes drew a walk to force in a run. Bennett settled down, forcing Victoria Lloyd to hit into an inning-ending double play and keeping SLU up, 2-1.
Bennett and Scarlett Lloyd matched zeroes until the Lady Lions struck again in the top of the fourth. A two-run home run by Greely gave SLU a 4-1 lead.
Pacific cut the lead to 4-3 in the bottom of the fifth inning, but Blanchard struck out Delaney Scully and retired Scarlett Lloyd to end the threat and maintain the SLU lead.
Ka'Lyn Watson tripled home Greely in the sixth to pad the advantage. Krolczyk led off the seventh with a double and scored on a Greely sacrifice fly to put Southeastern up, 6-3.
Blanchard allowed a two-out single to Olivia Silvestre, but struck out Emily Budelli to close out the win.
Game 2 – Southeastern 11, Pacific 2 (5 Innings)
Pacific struck first in the nightcap. An error led the Tigers to plate an unearned run off Comeaux in the bottom of the second inning and take an early 1-0 lead.
The lead would be short-lived, however, as SLU took the lead against Vanessa Strong (0-7) in the top of the third inning.
Ka'Lyn Watson singled home the frame's first two runs, then stole second and scored on an RBI single by
Maria Detillier. Krolczyk then lined a two-run home run – her fourth of the season – over the left field fence to give the Lady Lions a 5-1 advantage.
Southeastern busted the game open in the top of the fifth inning. Krolczyk doubled home the frame's first two runs, then Greely and Kulivan each drove in runs before a rain shower halted the game. Coming out of the rain delay, Hewitt singled home the inning's final two runs and gave SLU a commanding 11-1 advantage.
The host Tigers managed to score a run off
Ellie DuBois in the fifth, but would get no closer, as DuBois forced Hayes to ground out for the final out of the game.
