Southeastern Earns Southland Doubleheader Sweep in Battle of the Lions

SLU (20-6, 4-1 SLC) outscores hosts, 31-0, en route to 11th straight Southland series win

COMMERCE, Texas – The Southeastern Louisiana University softball team outscored Texas A&M-Commerce, 31-0, on the way to a Southland Conference doubleheader sweep Friday night at the John Cain Family Softball Complex.

The two run-rule victories for SLU (20-6, 4-1 SLC) clinched the 11th straight Southland Conference series victory for the Lady Lions. Friday was a total team effort, as every active player on the Southeastern roster saw action in the two victories over TAMUC (5-24, 0-5 SLC). The dominant sweep saw SLU out-hit the hosts, 31-4, and the Lady Lion defense play error-free.

In the opener, Southeastern scored in every inning on the way to a 14-0 shutout victory. Lexi Johnson led SLU with a 4-for-4 showing at the plate, hitting her fourth home run of the season and driving in three. Audrey Greely and Chloe Magee were both 2-for-2 in the win.

The season-high 16 hits included a several first for the Lady Lions. Faith Kivett drove in her first two runs of the season, while Brilee Broussard and Mykail Lusco collected the first hits of their respective SLU careers. Cera Blanchard (8-1) and Mary-Cathryn (MC) Comeaux combined to hold A&M-Commerce to three hits.

Southeastern banged out 15 hits in the nightcap and took advantage of nine A&M-Commerce errors in a 17-0 win. Ka'Lyn Watson homered and drove in four runs, while Maria Detillier added three RBI. Magee, Detillier and Johnson had two hits apiece, while Broussard and Ariel Gomez each picked up their first RBI of the season.

Ellie DuBois (6-2), Chloe Bennett and Allison Brunson combined to hold the host Lions to one hit in SLU's ninth shutout victory of the season.

The series wraps up Saturday at noon and the game will be televised on ESPN+. Live stats, provided by Texas A&M-Commerce, will be accessible via the softball schedule page at www.LionSports.net.
