COMMERCE, Texas – The Southeastern Louisiana University softball team overcame a nearly eight-hour rain delay on the way to a 14-1 Southland Conference victory over Texas A&M-Commerce Saturday at the John Cain Family Softball Complex.
The win helped Southeastern (21-6, 5-1 SLC) complete its first SLC series sweep of the season. The Lady Lions outscored host TAMUC (5-25, 0-6 SLC), 45-1, on the way to their 11
th consecutive conference series win dating back to 2022.
Bailey Krolczyk led a 15-hit Southeastern attack, finishing 4-for-4 with two doubles, a triple, three runs scored and two RBI.
Lexi Johnson led SLU with three RBI, while
Maria Detillier,
Audrey Greely and
Cam Goodman each had two hits.
Cera Blanchard (9-1) and
Chloe Bennett combined to hold Texas A&M-Commerce to five hits.
SLU took the early lead in the top of the first inning against Texas A&M-Commerce starter Maddie Muller (2-10). Consecutive doubles by Krolczyk and
Maddie Watson gave Southeastern the lead, then Greely continued the two-out rally with an RBI single and chased Muller from the game.
Greely and Johnson then executed a double steal with Johnson stealing home and putting the Lady Lions up, 4-0.
The host Lions got on the board for the first time on the weekend off Blanchard in the bottom of the first inning, cutting the SLU lead to 4-1.
Southeastern got the run back in the top of the second inning.
Maria Detillier doubled to the left centerfield gap, then scored when Krolczyk tripled into the right field corner to put SLU up, 5-1.
In the bottom of the second, the game entered a weather delay that would last nearly eight hours. After the game resumed, Texas A&M-Commerce loaded the bases, but Blanchard struck out Charli Anger to keep the lead at 5-1.
Any chance of a Texas A&M-Commerce comeback was ended in the top of the fifth inning, as SLU sent 13 to the plate in a nine-run inning. Johnson drove in three runs, while Goodman, Detillier and
Sadie Hewitt each had RBI in a huge Southeastern outburst that put the Lady Lions up, 14-1. Bennett retired the Lions in order in the bottom of the fifth to secure the run-rule victory.
Southeastern will close out a four-game road swing Wednesday with a 6 p.m. contest at ULM.
