OXFORD, Miss. – The Southeastern Louisiana University softball team lost consecutive games for the first time this season with a pair of losses on the opening day of the Ole Miss Classic Friday at the Ole Miss Complex.
Southeastern (12-5) opened the day with a 5-4 loss to Kent State (7-3). The Lady Lions led 4-3 heading into the final inning, but a two-run single by Alexandria Whitmore provided the winning runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Bailey Krolczyk and
Cam Goodman led SLU with two hits apiece in the loss to the Golden Flashes. Goodman,
Ka'Lyn Watson and
Maddie Watson each drove in runs.
Ellie DuBois (4-2) took the loss in the circle for Southeastern.
In the nightcap, the Lady Lions and Ole Miss (12-3) each only managed three hits apiece in a 2-0 Rebel victory.
Cera Blanchard (4-1) allowed just one hit in 4.1 innings of work, suffering a tough-luck loss.
Chloe Magee,
Maria Detillier and
Maddie Watson were the only Lady Lions to collect hits versus Ole Miss. Southeastern mounted its biggest threat in the top of the fourth inning, loading the bases before Ole Miss starter Makenna Klietheremes (6-1) ended the threat with one of her six strikeouts.
Aynslie Furbush shook off a one-out double by
Maddie Watson in the top of the seventh inning and held the Lady Lions scoreless to secure her third save of the season.
Southeastern will be back to action Saturday facing UAB at 1 p.m. and Ole Miss at 6 p.m. Live stats for both games, provided by Ole Miss, will be accessible on the softball schedule page at
