Southeastern Closes Texas A&M Invitational With 9-1 Win Over St. Thomas

SLU improves to 12-3 overall with third straight win

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Southeastern Louisiana University softball team closed out play at the Texas A&M Invitational with a 9-1 victory over St. Thomas Saturday morning at Davis Diamond.

Southeastern (12-3) extended its win streak to three games and finished the tournament with a 4-1 record. St. Thomas fell to 1-12 on the season.

Maria Detillier led SLU at the plate, finishing 3-for-3 with a grand slam home run. Bailey Krolczyk also homered for the Lady Lions, as she and Cam Goodman each drove in two runs.

Chloe Bennett (2-1) earned the win in the circle, striking out five in 4.1 innings of shutout relief. Four Lady Lion pitchers combined to hold the Tommies to four hits.

Southeastern jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning against UST starter Christina Crawford (0-6). Detillier singled, then scored on an RBI double by Bailey Krolczyk to put the Lady Lions up, 1-0.

St. Thomas tied the score in the bottom of the first and chased starter Allison Brunson from the contest. Bennett inherited a bases-loaded, one-out jam, but kept the score deadlocked by inducing an inning-ending double play.

The score remained the same until Krolczyk gave the Lady Lions the lead for good in the top of the fourth inning. The Corpus Christi, Texas native led off the frame with her third home run of the season to put SLU up, 2-1.

Southeastern broke the game open in the top of the fifth inning thanks to another long ball. Detillier's bases loaded bomb was her first of 2024 and gave the Lady Lions a comfortable 6-1 cushion.

The Lady Lions closed out the scoring in the top of the sixth inning. Goodman singled home the first two runs of the inning, then Ka'Lyn Watson drove in another to increase the advantage to 9-1. Cera Blanchard and Mary-Cathryn (MC) Comeaux combined to hold St. Thomas scoreless in the bottom of the sixth inning to close out the run-rule victory.

Southeastern will next head to Oxford, Mississippi to compete in the Ole Miss Classic. The Lady Lions open the tournament with a 10:30 a.m. game versus Kent State Friday.
