COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Southeastern Louisiana University softball team finished with a pair of victories on day two of the Texas A&M Invitational Friday at Davis Diamond.
SLU (11-3) opened the day with a 5-2 victory over St. Thomas (1-10). In the second game of the day, Southeastern took down North Dakota State (6-7) in a 5-1 victory.
In the opener,
Ka'Lyn Watson led Southeastern with a pair of hits and two runs scored, while
Chloe Magee and
Maria Detillier each drove in two runs.
Mary-Cathryn (MC) Comeaux (2-1) struck out five Tommies and held St. Thomas to four hits in five innings of work to earn the victory in the circle.
Ka'Lyn Watson continued her tremendous opening month of the 2024 season in the win over the Bison, finishing 3-for-3 with her first home run of the year. Detillier and
Lexi Johnson also had RBI, backing up a strong pitching performance by
Cera Blanchard (4-0), who held NDSU to three hits and fanned six in six innings of work in the circle.

Game One – Southeastern 5, St. Thomas 1
Southeastern took the early lead in the bottom of the first inning.
Ka'Lyn Watson singled, stole second and scored on an RBI single by Detillier to give the Lady Lions a 1-0 advantage.
After the Tommies tied it up in the top of the third inning, SLU took the lead for good in the bottom of the frame. The speed of
Ka'Lyn Watson and
Cam Goodman allowed both runners to score on an infield single by Magee and put the Lady Lions up, 3-1.
Southeastern added to its lead in the bottom of the fifth, as
Colleen Kulivan, Goodman and
Ka'Lyn Watson all reached to load the bases with no outs. Consecutive RBI groundouts by Magee and Detillier put the Lady Lions ahead, 5-1.
St. Thomas scored a run off reliever
Ellie DuBois in the top of the sixth inning, but could get no closer. DuBois sat down the Tommies in order in the seventh, striking out the final two batters to close out the win.
Game Two – Southeastern 5, North Dakota State 1
An RBI double by Bella Dean gave the Bison the lead in the top of the first, but SLU answered right back in its half of the first. Detillier singled home
Ka'Lyn Watson for the first run of the inning, then scored on an RBI groundout by Johnson. An error off the bat of
Maddie Watson scored
Bailey Krolczyk and staked Southeastern to a 3-1 advantage.
The Lady Lions added to their lead in the bottom of the second inning. Consecutive singles by Kulivan, Goodman and
Ka'Lyn Watson, plus an NDSU error put SLU up, 4-1.
Southeastern closed out its scoring in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Ka'Lyn Watson led off the frame with a solo shot over the right centerfield fence to increase the Lady Lion lead to 5-1.
After being touched up for a run in the first, Blanchard retired 15 Bison in a row before giving up a single in the sixth inning. DuBois tossed a perfect seventh to secure SLU's second victory of the day.
