MOBILE, Ala. – The Southeastern Louisiana University baseball program dropped a midweek contest Wednesday, 8-1, to South Alabama at Stanky Field.
South Alabama (5-0) took an early lead, picking up a run in the second, and added to it over the next couple of innings. The Jaguars added a run in the third and two more in both the fourth and fifth innings. Two more runs in the eighth pushed the SLU (2-2) deficit to 8-0.
Christian Garcia broke up the no-hit bid with a pinch-hit single in the eighth inning and the Lions scratched across a run in the ninth to avoid being shut out.
With one out in the ninth, pinch-hitter
Rhett Rosevear was hit by a pitch. It was the 78
th time in his career, extending his program record. He advanced to second and third on a pair of wild pitches. After third baseman
Jeremy Rader drew a walk, putting runners on the corners, catcher
Michael Curry plated Rosevear with a sacrifice fly to right field.
The Lions used 10 pitchers in the game, receiving scoreless outings from starter
Jackson Rodriguez along with relievers
Lakin Polk,
Carson Robb and
