HAMMOND, La. – A two-goal deficit was too much for the Southeastern Louisiana University women's soccer team to bounce back from in a 2-0 conference loss to Texas A&M-Commerce Friday evening at Strawberry Stadium.
Southeastern (3-7, 1-2) had an aggressive start to the match with a 3-8 shot advantage over Texas A&M-Commerce in the first half. The Lady Lions tied Texas A&M with 6 shots on target, but struggled to connect around the net with narrow misses. SLU contributed a tough defensive effort keeping the Lions of the board before the half.
Texas A&M-Commerce scored a quick goal by Hannah Bell, assisted by Camila Montero, within the opening minutes of the second half to gain the lead. Southeastern had the opportunity to tie the game with a penalty kick by
Mya Guillory, but the Lady Lions could not capitalize due to a notable save from Texas A&M-Commerce goalkeeper Sophia Dean.
Kaydence Ramirez would score her third goal of the season late in the contest to extend the lead to 2-0 for Texas A&M-Commerce.
SLU finished the match with a 9-7 advantage in total shots and 7-6 edge in corner kicks.
Olivia Griffin had a busy night in goal for Southeastern. The Lady Lion goalkeeper finished the match with four saves.
Southeastern will continue its stretch of conference home games at Strawberry Stadium Sunday in a 5 p.m. match against Lamar. The game will be televised on ESPN+. Family and friends of our Lady Soccer team are welcome to Hammond, America to participate in Family Day.
