Graduate Thrower Earns Top-Five Finish to Wrap Three-Day Event

AUSTIN, Texas and HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southeastern Louisiana University track & field team wrapped up its time at the 95th Annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays with Kristian Jackson logging a top-five finish in discus on Saturday at the Mike A. Myers Stadium while several Lions finished day two of the Southern Miss Invitational at the Marshall Bell Complex.

Jackson was the final Southeastern competitor to take the field at the University of Texas, doing so in the discus competition. Her second toss went 51.08m (167'7"), which at the time moved her into third place in the competition. That would end up being her longest toss of her six throws on the day, eventually finishing with the fifth best throw when all was said and done.

Over at the Southern Miss Invitational, Dedrick Gant finished ninth in the long jump with a leap of 6.61m (21'8.25"). Alexandra Cleveland set a new personal best in the 200-meter dash, winning her heat with a time of 26.17, her fastest in the discipline. Jacqueline Thring also ran the 200-meters, doing so in 26.33 seconds, finishing fourth in her heat. Cleveland's time was good for 18th best in the competition while Thring's time placed her 20th overall.

But the Lions made big strides in the men's shot put competition. Thomas Nedow made his best throw of the 2023 outdoor season with a toss of 16.99m (55'9"), good enough to earn the gold medal in Hattiesburg. Seth Pagart set a personal best with a throw of 14.08m (46'2.5"), which was good enough for sixth place overall. Micah Miller also made his best throw of 2023 in the shot put on Saturday, finishing in eighth with a toss of 13.73m (45'0.5").

The Lions return to action next Saturday in Baton Rouge at the Pelican Relays, hosted by Southern University, at Roscoe Moore Stadium.
