Southeastern Takes Down Wichita State

The Lady Lions defeat power five opponent, Wichita State, to gain its first road win of the season.

Wichita, KS. – The reigning Southland Conference champion Southeastern Louisiana University women's basketball team secured a 64-36 victory over Wichita State in the Charles Koch Arena Tuesday evening.
 
Southeastern (4-3) had a phenomenal start to the contest going on a 5-0 run over Wichita State (3-4) who were held to seven points in the first quarter. The Lady Lions finished the first half with a 26-18 advantage over the Shockers led by senior Hailey Giaratano.
 
 The Ponchatoula native had yet another solid performance with 15 points and six rebounds to lead the Lady Lions in scoring against Wichita State. Giaratano impacted the game in every category also adding in three assists to push Southeastern's lead.
 
The Shockers went on four point run mid-way into the first quarter to give Wichita State some momentum. Redshirt senior Tre'Zure Jobe led the team with 10 points and three rebounds to finish out the game.
 
SLU came out with energy in the third quarter to gain an eight-point advantage over the Shockers who capitalized off easy points at the free throw line to chip at the deficit.
 
Southeastern had its best scoring run early in the fourth quarter with a 10-0 run to extend the lead at the end of the game. The Lady Lions built up its biggest lead of the game with a 28-point advantage in the fourth quarter with a minute left on the clock.
 
Taylor Bell, just shy of a double-double, contributed 12 points and eight rebounds for SLU. Allasia Washington was another key performer for Southeastern ending the night with 11 points and five rebounds. Washington came off the bench with a stellar performance being a spark for the Lady Lions shooting 100.0 percent from beyond the arch and 62.5 percent from the field. SLU gains its first road win of the season along with a historic win over a power five opponent.
 
The Lady Lions will return to action Tuesday, traveling to Lawrence, KS for a 12:30 p.m. matchup against the Kansas Jayhawks Nov. 30.
