LAKE CHARLES, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's soccer team continued its sixth conference match of the season with a 1-1 tie at McNeese Sunday evening at Cowgirl Field.
Southeastern (5-9-1, 3-4-1) remained scoreless in the first half, but held the Cowgirls (7-5-3, 4-1-2) scoreless for 80 minutes of the contest. Lady Lion goalkeeper
Olivia Griffin finished with two saves playing all 90 minutes in net for SLU.
Maggie Dennison broke through and found the net for Southeastern to take a 1-0 lead. Dennison's goal came from an assist by
Mya Guillory to secure her first goal of the season in the 57
th minute of the match.
McNeese answered back with a goal from Alexi Pitt to tie up the contest in the 80
th minute. With ten minutes left in the match both teams scrambled in an attempt to extend the lead. Southeastern would not allow the Cowgirls to gain any extra goals.
The Lady Lions held the momentum for the majority of the match, leading 16-9 in total shots and 8-3 in shots on goal.
Kelsey Fuller led Southeastern with a pair of attempted shots on goal in hopes to break away from McNeese.
Southeastern will return to action Sunday to celebrate Senior Night at Strawberry Stadium for a 5 p.m. match against Nicholls.
