HOUSTON, Texas – The Southeastern Louisiana University volleyball team saw its season-best five-match win streak come to a close to open the first full weekend of Southland Conference action as the Lady Lions dropped their first SLC road match of the season 3-0 (25-23, 25-23, 25-19) Thursday night to the Houston Christian Huskies at Sharp Gym.
The normally reliable SLU attack was off on the evening as the Lady Lions hitting percentage finished at just .078, even as SLU won the battle at the net with 9.0 total blocks compared to 7.0 total blocks for HCU.
Kailin Newsome, the reigning SLC Offensive Player of the Week, picked up her second straight double-double, and sixth of the season, with 12 kills and ten digs. She hit for a .226 average in 31 total attacks in the match and contributed a solo block as well.
Cicily Hidalgo finished the match with nine kills and dropped in a service ace.
Hannah Brewer had four kills, two solo blocks, and two assisted blocks in the contest.
Gracie Duplechein had 14 assists on the evening with an ace while
Peyton Stokley assisted on 13 SLU kills and collected an ace as well.
The Lady Lions (11-3, 1-1 SLC) look to get back in the win column on Saturday against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Opening serve of the match against the Islanders (1-14, 1-0 SLC) is set for 1:00 P.M. at TAMUCC's Dugan Wellness Center
