JACKSON, Miss. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's soccer team took home a 3-0 victory on the road against Jackson State Friday afternoon at JSU Soccer Field.
The three goals for Southeastern (1-1) were scored by
Haylli Roe,
Emma Jones and
Victoria Brackmann. Jones' goal was assisted by
Claire Huston.
On the offensive side of the ball, Roe had the first goal of the season for the Lady Lions in the first ten minutes of the match. The second goal was made by Jones with an assist from Huston in the 57
th minute of the match after
Mya Guillory's shot was blocked by JSU's Tionna Taylor. The third and final goal was made by Brackman in the 77
th minute after a blocked shot from Lady Lion
Trinia Dalao.
SLU goalkeeper
Olivia Griffin finished with three saves, while the Lady Lions had seven shots on goal.
Jackson State (0-3) added to their list of losses after dropping the match to the Lady Lions, finishing with a total of three shots on goal and four saves.
The win on the road is also first year SLU head coach
Nathan Gillespie's first win of his Lady Lion career.
Southeastern will open its home schedule on Friday, Sept. 2, hosting Southern at 7 p.m. in Strawberry Stadium. The SLU-Southern contest will be televised on ESPN+.
