Season-High 10 Runs Leads to Lion Win

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team scored a season-high 10 runs Saturday at UIW on the way to a 10-5 win in Southland Conference action at Sullivan Field.

Southeastern (9-18, 1-4 SLC) fought off multiple Cardinal (12-12, 2-4 SLC) rallies in the game.

The Lions picked up a pair of runs in the first on Preston Faulkner's seventh home run of the season. The two-run blast is the 27th of his career, moving him into a tie with Mark McMorris and Joe Labruzzo for sixth place on Southeastern's all-time list.

UIW tied the game with single runs in the second and third innings of starting pitcher Adam Guth.

SLU regained the lead with two more runs in the fifth. Evan Keller led off the inning with a double to left field and Preston Faulkner worked a two-out walk. Shea Thomas followed with an RBI single to center field. The ball was misplayed by the center fielder and Faulkner scored from first.

The Cardinals tied the game once again with a pair of runs in the sixth off reliever Hunter O'Toole.

Southeastern responded by batting around in the seventh. Five hits – four of them doubles – coupled with a suicide squeeze led to a six-run inning.

UIW threatened in the ninth, loading the bases, but only picked up one run before Dalton Aspholm shut the door.

Daniel Dugas (2-1), the Lions' third pitcher of the game, earned the win. The graduate student from Pearl River, Louisiana tossed two scoreless innings. Otto Stacey (1-3) suffered the loss for the Cardinals, allowing two runs in one inning of work.

For the second time this season, Lion pitching did not walk a batter.

SLU tied a season-high with 14 hits. Champ Artigues (3-for-4), Christian Garcia (2-for-3), Keller (2-for-6) and Thomas (2-for-4) all turned in multi-hit performances as the Lions snapped a nine-game losing streak.
