Southeastern Remains Undefeated at Home after Win vs. Prairie View

HAMMOND, LA  – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's basketball team improved their record after an 84-57 victory over Prairie View A&M Tuesday night in the University.

Southeastern (5-3) had a stellar night as they came back after their loss to LSU a few weeks ago and played for the first time in two weeks, improving their home record to 3-0.

Southeastern senior Chrissy Brown had an impactful night as she finished the night with a career high 20 points and her third double-double of the season, totaling out her number of rebounds to 12 on the night.

"Chrissy is a competitor on and off the court. She is playing out of position and at five foot nine she is a force to be reckoned with. She plays with a high IQ and gives everything she has each play." Head coach Ayla Guzzardo commented on Brown's career high scoring and double-double against the Panthers.

Alexius Horne also led the Lady Lions with 15 points while Cierria Cunningham had six assists.

The Lady Lions didn't start the game out with their normal fire as they have in the last seven games, allowing the Panthers to quickly take the lead in the first quarter 9-8. That would be the only lead Prairie View had as Southeastern took control of the ball  and upped the score 23-19 by the end of the first period.

Southeastern was impeccable on defense, forcing seven turnovers and not allowing Prairie View to get in the paint as much as they wanted to, but the Lady Lions still allowed PVAMU to score 31 points in the first half. They were able to outscore Southeastern in the second period by one point.

"They are known for their defensive pressure," Guzzardo said, speaking on the Panthers' ability to keep the Lady Lions to only 31 points in the first half. "We knew they were going to throw everything at us. They are a well coached team and play super hard. We knew we would have to top their energy."

After halftime, Southeastern tightened up their offensive game and had a 13 point scoring run in the third quarter with Daija Harvey making a three pointer after an assist by Hailey Giarratano. The Lady Lions would end up scoring 28 points before the third quarter ended.

Southeastern stole the show in the fourth quarter as the Lady Lions would rack up another 22 points to close out the game against the Panthers 84-57 as Horne ended the game with a two-point jump shot from a turnover in the paint with 34 seconds left on the clock.

Southeastern will take the road again to face the Alabama Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa, Alabama Tuesday Dec. 20th and 2 p.m. The game can be seen on SEC Network+ and live stats can be accessed on www.rolltide.com
