JACKSON, MISS. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's basketball team fell to Jackson State 60-51 Friday December 23
rd in Jackson at 1 p.m.
Southeastern (5-5) started off the week with a 10-point loss to the University of Alabama on Tuesday.
Alexius Horne led the Lady Lions with 10 points.
Cierra Cunningham led the Lady Lions with 12 points.
Chrissy Brown led in rebounds with seven,
Jaylen Huderson led with four steals.
Southeastern (5-5) had a rough time as JSU started off the game with a three pointer by Liz Martino within the first thirty seconds of the first quarter. This would go on as JSU would get a lead up on Southeastern, shooting 47% from the floor. The Lady Tigers ended the first quarter 16-15. Huderson was able to help put points on the board after JSU fouled and put her at the line.
The Lady Lions couldn't get a grip on the lead as Horne missed a three pointer in the first two minutes of the second quarter. SLU wasn't able to find the rim through out the last part of the first half with one completion out of nine attempts, shooting 11% from the floor.
Daija Harvey attempted a three pointer at 6:41 but it was no good as it rolled off the rim, rebounded by Brown.
The third quarter started out with Horne going for a three-pointer that bounced off the rim and into the hands of Martino. Keshuna Luckett went in for a jumper but didn't go in the net.
Taylor Bell was fouled by Lockett and was able to get to the line. The Lady Lions would end the third quarter 44-38.
In the fourth quarter, JSU had some opportunities in the paint but weren't able to succeed until a jumper in the paint completed by Ti'lan Boler, making the score 46-38. Southeastern scored back-to-back with points put on the board by Horne, Cunningham and Giaratano. Brown puts in a three-point jump shot that is quickly answered by a JSU three pointer. The game ended with a foul on Cunningham and Luckett at the line for two successful free throws.
Southeastern will open up conference play against Nicholls on the road in Thibodaux, Louisiana Saturday December 31
