Southeastern Earns 2-1 Victory at ULM

Lady Lions improve to 15-12 overall; DuBois sets single-season save mark

MONROE, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana softball team closed out a four-game road swing with a 2-1 victory over ULM in a nonconference pitcher's duel Wednesday night at the ULM Softball Complex.

The Lady Lions (15-12) scored two unearned runs in the top of the sixth inning to give SLU the road win. ULM fell to 10-13 overall with the loss.

A quartet of SLU pitchers held the host Warhawks to six hits. Heather Zumo, MC Comeaux (6-5), Sophie Hannabas and Ellie DuBois all saw action in the circle with DuBois pitching a perfect seventh to set a single-season school record with her fourth save of the season.

Lindsey Rizzo, Aeriyl Mass and Audrey Greely were the only Lady Lions to collect hits in Wednesday's victory. Mass and Greely each scored runs for Southeastern.

Zumo and Warhawk starter Adrianna Chavarria (1-3) matched zeroes until ULM took the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. Jayden Mount led off the frame with a double and scored on a one-out bunt single by Kennedy Johnson. Zumo left two more Warhawks in scoring position to keep the deficit at 1-0.

SLU finally got to Chavarria in the top of the sixth inning. Singles by Mass and Greely, followed by a passed ball put a pair of runners in scoring position with two outs. Rizzo then reached on a two-base error by Mount that allowed Mass and Greely to come home for a 2-1 Lady Lion lead.

Hannabas struck out a pair of Warhawks in a 1-2-3 sixth, then DuBois sat down ULM in order in the seventh to close out the win. The freshman from Shreveport, Louisiana native's fourth save of the year topped the previous program season mark of three saves set by Carla Newsom in both the 1995 and 1996 seasons.
