BATON ROUGE, La. – A pair of three-run home runs powered No. 10-ranked LSU to a 10-7 win Tuesday over Southeastern Louisiana at Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field.
The Tigers (15-3) extended their winning streak to six consecutive and snapped the eight-game streak Southeastern (11-5) carried into the game.
LSU catcher Hayden Travinski got the slugfest going with a three-run home run to left field, capping a four-run first inning for the Tigers. It was his second of the season.
Southeastern clawed back, cutting the deficit to one in the third with a pair of home runs.
Evan Keller led off the inning with his second of three hits in the game, eventually stealing second base. He was aboard for
Jacob Burke's third home runs of the season, a two-run blast to left.
Preston Faulkner followed it up with a solo homer, marking the first time the Lions have hit back-to-back home runs since April 23, 2019, at Tulane.
The Tigers added a run in the bottom of the inning and then five more in the fourth thanks to Cade Doughty's eighth homer of the season, a three-run shot to center field.
Southeastern responded with three runs in the top of the fifth.
Joe Delaney was hit by a pitch leading off the inning and advanced to second on
Evan Keller's infield hit. After Burke drew a one-out walk to load the bases, Faulkner drove a single through the right side to plate a pair. Burke scored on
Christian Garcia's sacrifice fly to left.
The Lions added a run in the sixth.
Nick Ray lined a double to center field and then stole third. He scored on Delaney's groundout to third.
Relievers
Ryan Keeley,
Dalton Aspholm and
Daniel Dugas combined to quell the LSU bats over the final four innings, but by that time it was too late for the Lions to catch up.
LSU starter Will Hellmers (4-1) earned the win, allowing three runs in four innings pitched. Garrett Edwards worked a perfect ninth to earn his second save of the season. Southeastern starter
Brock Batty (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing four runs in one inning of work.
Keller (3-for-5) and Faulkner (2-for-3) turned in multihit performances for the Lions.
