BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southeastern Louisiana softball team closed out tournament play at the UAB Green and Gold Classic with a pair of losses Sunday at Mary Bowers Field.
SLU (4-5) opened the day with a 9-1 loss to No. 9 UL Lafayette (3-0).
Briahna Bennett hit her second home run in as many days to tie the game in the fourth inning, but the Ragin' Cajuns scored eight runs over the final three innings to secure the victory.
Aeriyl Mass singled and scored in the top of the first inning to provide the Lady Lions' lone offense in a 6-1 loss to UAB (4-3) in the nightcap.
Game One – No. 9 UL Lafayette 9, Southeastern Louisiana 1 (6 Innings)
The Ragin' Cajuns took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning against SLU starter
Sophie Hannabas (0-1). An RBI single by Melissa Mayeaux staked UL Lafayette to the early advantage.
Ragin' Cajun starter Kandra Lamb (2-0) held Southeastern scoreless until the top of the fourth inning. With one out, Bennett powered a home run over the left centerfield fence to knot the score at 1-1.
Triples by Mayeaux and Julie Rawls highlighted a three-run bottom of the fourth that gave UL Lafayette the lead for good. Ragin' Cajun reliever Casey Dixon quieted the SLU bats over the next two innings, while UL Lafayette scored two runs in the fifth and three runs in the sixth to enforce the mercy rule.
Game Two – UAB 6, Southeastern Louisiana 1
Southeastern took the early advantage in the top of the first inning. Mass led off the inning with a single and later scored on a wild pitch by Parker Conrad to give the Lady Lions a 1-0 lead.
UAB tied it up in the bottom of the first. Analyse Petree homered versus SLU for the second straight day to knot the score at 1-1.

Heather Zumo (3-1) matched zeroes until UAB took the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Blazers sent 11 batters to the plate in a five-run frame to take a 6-1 lead. Olivia Valbak (1-0) sat down the Lady Lions in order in the seventh to close out the win.

This weekend marked the first of three straight weekend road tournaments SLU will participate in. Next weekend, Southeastern heads to Tallahassee, Florida to compete in the FSU Conquered Invitational, hosted by Florida State. SLU faces Florida A&M in a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Friday to open the tournament.
