Lady Lions Compete Hard in 1-1 Tie Against UIW

Guillory's Fourth Goal of the Season Helps SLU to Tie

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's soccer team battled to a 1-1 tie with the University of Incarnate Word Friday night at Strawberry Stadium.

The Lady Lions (5-7-3, 3-4-3 Southland) fell behind early in the match as UIW's
Inara Lopes De Andrade scored her first goal of the season on an assist from Andrea Reyes in the 22nd minute.

Southeastern quickly tied the match as Mya Guillory scored her fourth goal of the season off a great lead from Makenzie Maher.

The two teams battled step-for-step for much of the match from that point as neither was giving ground. The scoring opportunities were minimal for both the Lady Lions and UIW (4-10-2, 4-5-1 Southland) as each team finished with seven shots for the match.

The best chance to take the lead for either team came in double overtime. UIW's Isabella Beletic took a got a great shot off from 10 yards in front of the SLU net that sailed just high of the net as the match ended in a 1-1 tie.

"It was a competitive game," said SLU head coach Chris McBride. "Incarnate Word is disciplined and organized and it was tough to break them down. I thought we did a good job though of trying to limit their chances as well. But overall a very tough and competitive 110-minute battle."

Next up, the Lady Lions will take on Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (6-9-1, 4-5-1 Southland) Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.

Sunday's match will be streamed via ESPN+ with links to the match available at the Southeastern soccer schedule page located at LionSports.Net.
