SLU Hosts ACU to Open Final Home Stand

Lady Lions, Wildcats meet Saturday at 1 p.m. in the UC

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana women's basketball team opens its final home stand of the season on Saturday, hosting Abilene Christian for a 1 p.m. Southland Conference contest in the University Center.
 
The contest between the Lady Lions (10-14, 7-8 Southland) and the host Wildcats (19-5, 11-4 Southland) will be broadcast live in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9), online at www.LionSports.net/listenlive and via the TuneIn Radio and Lions Gameday Experience apps.
 
The Southeastern Sports Network will offer a free video stream of Saturday's game. Tune in online at www.LionSports.net or the Lions Game Day Experience app for Android or iOS devices. Fans can also watch on Southeastern's YouTube channel (/SLUathletics) with any mobile, tablet or smart TV device (e.g., Apple TV, Amazon Fire, Android TV and Roku).
 
Jyar Francis is Saturday's Spotlight Player of the Game. The first 150 fans will receive a trading card featuring the Ponchatoula, Louisiana native courtesy of PRIDE.  
 
Southeastern is currently tied for seventh in the Southland Conference standings with five games remaining. The top eight teams will advance to the league tournament, set for March 12-15 at the Merrell Center in Houston, Texas. ACU has already secured a postseason berth.
 
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi rallied from 10 points down to defeat the Lady Lions, 49-48, on Wednesday. Charliee Dugas and Alexius Horne led SLU with 11 points, four assists and two steals. Aminat Jubril paced Southeastern with a game-high 10 rebounds.
 
Celica Sterling leads the team and is fifth in the Southland with 14.2 points per game. Francis (9.9 ppg), Horne (9.7 ppg), Morgan Carrier (7.7 ppg) and Dugas (7.3 ppg) are the other top scorers for SLU. Dugas enters the game needing nine points to become the 21st student-athlete in school history to reach 1,000 career points.
 
Horne doubles as the team's top distributor and is third in the Southland with 3.9 assists per contest. Tyler Morrison sits in 10th on the program's career leaderboard with 263 assists.
 
Sterling has done much of her damage from behind the arc and is fourth in the league with 2.3 three-point field goals per game. The Baton Rouge, Louisiana native ranks among the Lady Lion all-time career leaders in three-point field goals made (120, 5th), three-point field goal attempted (314, 8th) and three-point field goal percentage (38.2, 2nd).
 
Caitlyn Williams is Southeastern's top rebounder and is 11th on the conference leaderboard with 6.2 rebounds per game. Her 534 career rebounds represent the 15th-highest career total in program history.
 
Opponents are scoring 63.6 points and averaging 17.8 turnovers per game. Horne is ninth in the Southland with 1.9 steals per game. Morrison and Dugas are tied for eighth on the school's career list with 143 steals.
 
Williams is sixth in the Southland with 1.2 blocked shots per game. The Brusly, Louisiana native is eighth in school history with 72 career blocks.
 
Abilene Christian has won four of its last five contests. Breanna Wright leads the Southland with 17.1 points, 5.0 assists and 2.9 three-point field goals per game.
 
Dominique Golightly (14.8 ppg, 3rd) gives ACU two of the top three scorers in the league. Golightly also leads the team with 5.9 rebounds per game.
 
Abilene Christian is 9-3 all-time versus Southeastern, but the Lady Lions have won the last two meetings in Hammond. Back on Jan. 18, ACU held off Southeastern in a 61-53 decision. Horne had a season-high 24 points in the loss for SLU, while Alyssa Adams led the Wildcats with 22 points and 11 rebounds.

Saturday is the first of three home games for Southeastern, which will return home to host McNeese at 7 p.m. on Wednesday in the University Center.
