UNO Pulls Away From Lions, 84-73

Robinson Scores 28 to Lift UNO Past SLU

HAMMOND, La. – Bryson Robinson scored 28 points to lead the University of New Orleans past the Southeastern Louisiana men's basketball team, 84-73, Saturday afternoon at the University Center.
                                                                                       
Despite the loss, the Lions (6-16, 3-8 Southland) got a big game from sophomore Ty Brewer who scored 24 points on 9-for-15 shooting and grabbed seven rebounds. Freshman Nic Caldwell added 13 points and six rebounds while Von Julien chipped in with 10.
 
Robinson, a first team preseason All-Southland selection, was on fire early as the senior hit six threes to help UNO (7-15, 3-9 Southland) to a 43-33 halftime lead. The Mesquite, Texas native finished with eight three pointers for the game and shot 9-for-15 from the field. Gerrale Gates added 17 points for the Privateers while Troy Green and Jahmel Myers had 14 and 11 respectively.
 
UNO jumped out to a 15-4 lead to start the game and led 31-15 with 9:56 left in the first half. The Lions rallied to cut the deficit to 36-31 thanks to 16 first half points from Brewer.
 
In the second half, the Privateers took control as they opened the half on a 8-0 run to take a 51-33 lead. UNO led by as much as 20, 76-56, before the Lions cut it to 10, 79-69 with 1:30 to go. But it was too late as the Privateers pulled away for the win.
 
UNO finished 28-for-53 (53 percent) from the field including 9-for-16 (56 percent) from the three-point line. The Privateers also shot 19-for-22 (86 percent) from the free throw line while SLU was 15-for-20 (75 percent).
 
Next up, the Lions will take on Houston Baptist University (1-17, 1-8 Southland) Wednesday night at home at 7 p.m. HBU
