Early Run Too Much for Lions to Overcome in Loss to CBU, 83-66

Lions Shooting Struggles Key in Loss to Lancers

RIVERSIDE, Calif.  – California Baptist University used a 14-0 run to start the game on their way to an 83-66 win over the Southeastern Louisiana men's basketball team Friday afternoon at the CBU Events Center.

Southeastern (1-4) was led by senior Keon Clergeot with 16 points including 8-for-10 from the free throw line. Junior Joe Kasperzyk added 12 points while Gus Okafor, a junior, chipped in with 10.

CBU (1-2) was paced by Tre Armstrong with 27 points on 9-for-14 shooting including four three-pointers. Ty Rowell also added 20 points shooting 6-for-12 from the field for the Lancers.

SLU started the game 0-for-8 from the field and didn't score until the 14:01 mark of the first half. Despite the start, the Lions held strong and trailed, 43-30, at the half.

In the second half, the Lions hung tough staying within striking distance, 69-59, with 6:25 remaining. However, the Lancers scored seven straight to put the game out of the Lions' reach.

The three-point shooting woes found the Lions again as SLU finished the game 3-for-22 (13 percent) from beyond the arc. SLU managed to get to the free throw line consistently but made 25-for-40 (62 percent). The Lancers finished the game 10-for-30 from the three-point line and 21-for-28 from the free throw line.

The Lions will have five days off before taking on Louisiana Tech Wednesday night on the road at 6:30 p.m. in Ruston, Louisiana.
