HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana football team closed its fourth week of fall practice preparations for the spring 2021 season on Friday morning at Strawberry Stadium.
Friday marked the 11
th practice during the fall practice session, which has replaced the normal spring practice with the competition season being postponed until spring. The Lions will practice Mondays and Wednesdays at 3:40 p.m. and Fridays at 10:10 a.m. through Nov. 13.
Southeastern head coach
Frank Scelfo saw another competitive practice from his Lions.
"We started off practice with our offense coming out of their own end zone and the offense made some nice plays both in the running and passing game," Scelfo commented. "Then we had a blitz period where the defense dominated, so we continue to be evenly-matched throughout the fall."
The practice concluded with a session concentrating on red zone situations. The offense had the upper hand, as quarterbacks
Cole Kelley and
Cephus Johnson III connected on touchdown passes to
Nick Kovacs,
Ed Magee,
Taron Jones and
JoMari Becnel. Johnson also ran in for a touchdown on a quarterback keeper.
The Southeastern defense had its moments in the red zone period, as well.
Robert Buquoi intercepted a pass at the goal line, while
Feletoa Ailua got free for a sack.
SLU is scheduled to open its six-game, conference-only spring schedule on Feb. 27 at Sam Houston State. The Lions host McNeese on March 6 at Strawberry Stadium to open their home slate.
