HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana football team continued into its fourth week of fall practice preparations for the spring 2021 season on Wednesday afternoon at Strawberry Stadium.
Wednesday marked the 10
th practice during the fall practice session, which has replaced the normal spring practice with the competition season being postponed until spring. The Lions will practice Mondays and Wednesdays at 3:40 p.m. and Fridays at 10:10 a.m. through Nov. 13.
Wednesday's team portion of practice focused on third-down situations. The competition has been evenly matched throughout the fall and Wednesday's practice was no exception. The defense controlled the action early in practice, while the offense came back with some big plays in the latter part of the workout.
"Last fall, we weren't as good as we need to be on third downs on offense or defense," Southeastern head coach
Frank Scelfo said. "We were able to get a lot of good work in on offense and defense facing a lot of different scenarios today."
Scelfo has been pleased with his team's increased awareness as fall practice has progressed.
"Our coaching staff has done a good job of teaching our players what to do in certain situations," Scelfo commented. "Our knowledge and understanding of the game has grown over the past four weeks."
With four fall practices remaining, Scelfo wants to see his team put in to practice things they've learned thus far.
"Consistency is really what we're looking forward moving forward," Scelfo commented. "Our competitive character has really developed well, now we want to be consistent in every facet moving forward."
SLU is scheduled to open its six-game, conference-only spring schedule on Feb. 27 at Sam Houston State. The Lions host McNeese on March 6 at Strawberry Stadium to open their home slate.
