Lady Lions Ink Three to 2021 Roster During Early Signing Period

McBride Adds Trio of Talent to SLU Roster

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana women's soccer team signed three to the 2021 roster during the early signing period, including Maycie Massingill, Shamoy Campbell and Tilly Deacon, fourth-year SLU soccer head coach Chris McBride announced this week.

Massingill (5-7), is a Cleburne, Texas native. The Burleson High School grad was named All-Johnson County Co-Offensive Player of the Year as a junior scoring 21 goals and tallying 15 assists. Massingill also helped lead BHS to a 15-4-5 record in District 5-5A.

"We've been recruiting Maycie for about two and half years now," said McBride. "We saw her at a showcase over in Dallas (Texas) and she really impressed us. She's a dynamic forward who's very good with the ball at her feet and is very explosive. She's got the ability to take people one-on-one and when she doesn't have the ball she can get in behind the defense and I think that's going to allow us to be more versatile. But most importantly, Maycie's character really fits our team and the coaching staff very well. She's a very hard worker with a well-grounded personality and I think she's going to make a real positive impact immediately."

Campbell (5-feet-6-inches) comes to the Lions by way of London, England. The forward is playing this season for Charlton Athletic Women's FC. The club competed in the FA WSL Championship which is the second highest senior league in England.

"Shamoy's soccer IQ is very high," said McBride. "She's got a lot of technical ability and she will be able to unbalance defenders. She's good with the ball at her feet and playing one-on-one as well as being able to get in behind the defense. I think we're going to have a lot of creative options coming from her and through her. She's going to be able to help us create a lot on the attack. She, again, is one that fits our mold very well being that she's a hard worker and is willing to sacrifice to get better."

Deacon (5-7) is a JUCO transfer from LSU-Eunice. The defender played and started all 17 matches last year for LSU-E helping guide the Bengals to a 13-3-1 record including nine shutouts. The London native also netted two goals and added an assist.

"Tilly is one we've been looking for a while too," said McBride. "We saw her first game at LSU-Eunice and followed her all last fall. Watching her progress, she's come along very well since coming over to America and has adapted well to the American game. She's very hard working and is aware of what she needs to do to improve and we really appreciate that as a coaching staff."
