UCA Pulls Away From Lions in Second Half, 88-68

Bears Break Away From Lions Late

CONWAY, Ark. – The University of Central Arkansas outscored the Southeastern Louisiana men's basketball team, 48-30, in the second half to pull away for an 88-68 win Wednesday night at the Farris Center.
 
The Lions (6-15, 3-7 Southland) had 10 players score led by junior Pape Diop, who missed the two previous games with a concussion, with 13 points while senior Von Julien added 12.
 
The Bears (6-15, 5-5 Southland) had four players score in double figures led by junior Rylan Bergersen with 20 points. UCA was also aided by 18 points from Hayden Koval while Jared Chatham added 14 and DeAndre Jones chipped in with 10.
 
SLU opened the game in control as they took a 26-17 lead with 8:22 left in the first half. The Bears, however, rallied to take a 40-38 lead at halftime.
 
In the second half, UCA built a nine-point lead, 58-49, with 12:17 to play. The Lions were able to cut the deficit to five, 60-55 with 8:22 to go but the foul trouble mounted as SLU was whistled for 26 personal fouls for the game leading to 29 free throws for the Bears. UCA began to pull away late taking a 76-65 lead with 3:47 remaining as they pulled away for the win.
 
UCA finished the game 28-for-60 (46.7 percent) while the Lions were 29-for-62 (46.8 percent). SLU, however, was just 5-for-16 from the free throw line while the Bears were 25-for-29. UCA also outrebounded the Lions, 44-31.
 
Next up, SLU will return home to face the University of New Orleans (6-15, 2-9 Southland) Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. in the University Center. UNO lost, 82-74, Wednesday night at home to Northwestern State.
