HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana men's basketball team takes on Texas A&M-Corpus Christi for the second time in 11 days Wednesday night at the University Center at 7 p.m.

SLU (4-12, 1-4 Southland) will eye their second victory of the season against the Islanders (6-12, 2-4 Southland). Southeastern defeated A&M-Corpus Christi, 84-80, Jan. 4 on the road after jumping out to a 43-17 first half lead. The Islanders battled back in the second half cutting the Lions' lead to six, 71-65, with 3:35 to go. SLU's
Von Julien thwarted the comeback attempt by the Islanders making 10 straight free throws while tallying a career-high 20 points.

However, the Lions are coming off a couple of setbacks last week to Sam Houston State (11-6, 4-2 Southland) on the road and league-leading Nicholls (11-6, 5-1 Southland) at home. SLU led Sam Houston State Wednesday by as much as 15 in the first half and led 38-25 at halftime. The Bearkats rallied in the second half outscoring the Lions, 42-24, to edge SLU, 67-62.

Saturday, Southeastern nearly erased a 12-point second half deficit as they trailed Nicholls, 50-38, with 10:15 to go. The Lions rallied to cut it to three, 61-58, with 3:18 left before the Colonels scored the last eight points of the game for the 69-58 victory.

Southeastern's
Ty Brewer (6-7, 210, F) enters Wednesday's game among the Southland leaders in scoring, rebounding and steals. The sophomore is averaging 16.4 points (6
th in the Southland) and 8.1 rebounds per game (4
th) along with 26 steals (10
th). Julien, a senior from Reserve, Louisiana continues to lead the league in assists with 77.

A&M-Corpus Christi didn't let the loss to the Lions affect them as they defeated Stephen F. Austin, 73-72, on the road Wednesday. The Islanders used a balanced scoring attack to upset the 'Jacks as seven players scored seven points or more led by Peyton Smith with 12. However, the Islanders lost Saturday on the road to Abilene Christian, 68-56.

The Islanders lead the all-time series with the Lions 11-5. A&M-Corpus Christi had won the previous six contests but the Lions have won the last two meetings.
