Southeastern Sweeps Past Valley

ITTA BENA, Miss. – Southeastern Louisiana swept past Mississippi Valley State in straight sets Wednesday, 25-17, 25-18, 25-17, winning a nonconference match at the R.W. Harrison HPER Complex.

Caroline Golden, a junior from Mandeville, Louisiana, and Jodi Edo, a senior from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, led the Southeastern (4-7) offensive attack. Golden picked up six of her match-high 12 kills in the opening set. Edo contributed 11 kills while hitting a team-best .529 in the match.

"We're holding ourselves to a higher standard," head coach Jeremy White said. "They're learning how to play together as a team bit by bit. We've got a couple putting the ball away pretty aggressively and that helps out a lot."

The initial set went back and forth early before Southeastern strung together five-straight points, jumping out in front 11-7. From that point forward, the Lady Lions continued to tack on to their lead with a potent offense. Led by Golden's six kills, Southeastern hit .400 (15 kills, 3 errors, 30 attempts) in the opening set.

Action continued back and forth in the second set. A Ryan Maddera block put the Lady Lions up, 8-7, but Valley (2-12) rallied back for a 12-11 lead. After a Southeastern timeout, the Lady Lions tied up the score before the Devilettes built a 15-13 advantage. A pair of kills by Maddera got Southeastern headed back in the right direction, up 17-15.

The Lady Lions doubled up on Valley quickly in the third set, 8-4. Slowly inching closer, the Devilettes pulled within one, 16-15, before White called a timeout. Southeastern responded with seven-straight points and nine of the final 11 to finish off the sweep.

Baylee Laskoskie dished out a match-high 37 assists and Lizzy Low picked up 12 digs, reaching double figures for the third time this season.
