JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – Southeastern Louisiana dropped a pair a matches Friday to Troy and East Tennessee State in first-day action at the Jax State Invitational.
Jodi Edo, a senior from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and a pair of freshmen from Lafayette, Louisiana,
Ariana Hebert and
Jolie Hidalgo, helped lead Southeastern as it opened its first season under new head coach
Jeremy White.
The Lady Lions and host Jacksonville State square off Saturday at 1:30 p.m. to conclude the Jax State Invitational. Live stats are available for every match in the four-team, round-robin event. TROY 3, SLU 0
Troy (1-0) swept through the match by a score of 25-14, 25-23, 26-24, to defeat the Lady Lions (0-1).
The Trojans used an extremely efficient offensive attack to claim the initial set, posting 17 kills and just one error in 26 total attempts for a .615 attack percentage. Cheyene Hayes recorded eight of her match-high 17 kills to pace Troy.
Southeastern improved offensively in each of the final two sets following a sluggish start. After posting a .118 attack percentage in the opening set, the Lady Lions hit .135 in the second and .263 in the final set.
Edo led the way for the Lady Lions. The senior hit .320 on the attack and tallied 14 kills, one shy of her career high. Juniors
Sam Gomez and Caroline Holden contributed seven kills each.
In the first appearances of their collegiate career, Hebert dished out 27 assists and Hidalgo recorded a team-leading eight digs.
ETSU, 3, SLU 0
East Tennessee State (2-0) defeated the Lady Lions (0-2) in straight sets, 25-23, 25-18, 27-25.
Southeastern showcased an improved offensive attack in the first (.286) and third sets (.281), but struggled through the middle contest (-.028).
Hidalgo posted a team-leading 12 kills and Hebert, her former high school teammate, handed out another 27 assists and served up four aces.
Edo had a hand in six of the Lady Lions seven blocks and Golden picked up a team-high eight digs.
