Box Score JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – Southeastern Louisiana fell in straight sets to tournament host Jacksonville State, 25-19, 25-20, 25-20, during final day action at the Jax State Invitational.
The Lady Lions (0-3) fell behind in the opening set, rallying from four points down to tie Jacksonville State, 17-17, on a service ace by freshman
Ariana Hebert. Following a timeout, the Gamecocks (1-2) outscored Southeastern, 8-2, down the stretch.
After a block by
Jodi Edo and
Caroline Golden gave the Lady Lions a 4-3 advantage in the second set, Jacksonville State scored four consecutive points to regain the lead. Southeastern pulled within one, 8-7, but never regained the lead.
The teams traded off the first four points of the final set before the Gamecocks extended their lead on the way to finishing the match.
Golden, a junior from Mandeville, Louisiana, and transfer
Karlee Wilkerson led Southeastern with 10 kills each. Hebert handed out 18 assists and freshman
Baylee Laskoskie contributed another eight.
Edo, a senior from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, had a hand in three of the Lady Lions' seven team blocks. Hebert,
Lizzy Low and
Alexis Pratt each posted a team-high six digs.
UP NEXT
After the opening the season at the Jax State Invitational, the Lady Lions return to the road for a nonconference match Tuesday against Tulane in New Orleans, Louisiana. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse.
