HAMMOND, La. – The reigning Southland Conference champion Southeastern Louisiana men's basketball team looks to clinch a bye in the first round of the Southland Conference Tournament when they host New Orleans Wednesday night in the home finale at 7 p.m. at the University Center.

The Lions (15-14, 11-5 Southland) are a half game back of New Orleans (16-11, 12-5) for third place in the conference standings heading into the final week of the regular season. With a win against UNO, SLU can clinch a bye in the conference tournament beginning Wednesday, March 13 at the Merrill Center in Katy, Texas.

Southeastern is still alive for the two-seed. The Lions are one game back of Abilene Christian (23-6, 12-4 Southland) but would need to win both games this week against UNO and Nicholls. ACU would have to lose twice for the Lions to secure a double bye. The Wildcats host Stephen F. Austin (14-14, 7-9 Southland) Wednesday night and Incarnate Word (6-23, 1-15 Southland) Saturday afternoon.

"All we can do is worry about what we can control," said fifth-year SLU head basketball coach Jay Ladner. "We never really worry about who we play as much as how we play. And of course we respect all of our opponents but no matter who we play, it's more about our preparation than our opponent."

SLU will face UNO for the second time in two weeks Wednesday. The Privateers defeated the Lions, 89-68, Feb. 20 in New Orleans, Louisiana, hitting 14 three-pointers.
Senior Moses Greenwood led Southeastern scoring 26 points but it wasn't enough as the Privateers shot 64 percent (14-for-23) from the three-point line to overcome 21 offensive rebounds and 25 second chance points by SLU.

"Give them credit," said Ladner. "They just outplayed us the first time around and we have to be better Wednesday. It's that simple."

The numbers are on the Lions' side to bounce back against the Privateers as they are 15-1 in February and March the last two seasons. SLU is also 24-7 against in-state Southland opponents in the last four years.

Wednesday marks the final home game for seniors Greenwood, Marlain Veal, Keith Charleston, D'Angelo West and Kajon Brown.

"Our fans have one more chance to come out and see our seniors including two of the top four scorers in the history of our program (Veal and Greenwood)," said Ladner. "One more chance to see Keith, D'Angelo and Kajon. We would love to see the fans show up in bunches Wednesday."

Wednesday's game can be heard live in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9), online at www.LionSports.net/listenlive and via the Lions Game Day Experience and TuneIn Radio apps.

After Wednesday's contest, Southeastern will wrap up the regular season at Nicholls (12-16, 5-10 Southland) Saturday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. The Lions defeated the Colonels, 91-70, at the University Center Feb. 2.
