Lions Face Conference-Leading SFA on the Road

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Southeastern Louisiana continues its five-game road trip this weekend, squaring off against Southland Conference leader Stephen F. Austin at Jaycees Field. Games are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday.
 
The Lions (12-12, 4-2 Southland) bring a six-game winning streak into the series at SFA (13-13, 7-2 Southland).
 
All three games can be heard in the Hammond area on the flagship station of the Southeastern Sports Radio Network, KSLU 90.9 FM, online at www.LionSports.net/ListenLive and via both the Lions Gameday Experience and TuneIn Radio apps.

The Lions swept a conference series at home this past weekend against Abilene Christian and then defeated South Alabama, 1-0, Tuesday in Mobile, Alabama.
 
Southeastern is hitting .251 collectively, with 33 doubles, seven triples, 17 home runs and 47 stolen bases. The Lion pitching staff has worked to a combined 4.77 ERA, striking out 194 batters in 213 innings. Opponents are hitting .257 off Southeastern pitching.
 
Trey Harrington (.357), Kyle Schimpf (.307), Cody Grosse (.299) and Nick Ray (.267) pace the Southeastern offensive attack. The reigning Southland Conference Hitter of the Week, Ray leads the squad with five home runs and 26 RBI. Grosse has swiped a team-high 13 bases.
 
Corey Gaconi (2-2, 2.79), a senior from Metairie, Louisiana, draws the starting nod for the Lions in the opener, opposing SFA junior right-hander Alex Palmer (3-1, 2.82).
 
Southeastern has not announced a starting pitcher for the middle game of the series, but the Lumberjacks are slated to start freshman left-hander Jaxon Covington (3-1, 3.51).
 
Sunday, the Lions will counter SFA junior southpaw Jacob Stobart (3-1, 4.35) in the series finale with sophomore righty Will Warren (2-2, 6.98).
 
Brandon Uhse (.320), Jared Martin (.300) and Sean Moore (.286) are the Lumberjacks top hitters. Manny Vasquez has hit a team-high three home runs while Moore leads the club with 17 RBI. Nick Daley's nine stolen bases are the most by an SFA player.
 
Swinging the lumber at a .233 clip, the Lumberjacks have combined for 27 doubles, five triples, nine home runs and 22 stolen bases. The SFA pitching staff owns a 5.32 ERA and has struck out 209 batters in 233 innings pitched. Opponents are hitting .272 off Lumberjack pitching.
 
SFA has dropped its last three, including the final two games of its Southland series at Central Arkansas this past weekend.
 
The Lions wrap up their road trip Tuesday with a 6:30 p.m. nonconference game at UL Lafayette. The Lions return home Wednesday, hosting the same Ragin' Cajun club at 6 p.m. at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.
 
Before Wednesday's home game, the Southeastern Student Government Association will sponsor a student tailgate atop the parking garage attached to Strawberry Stadium. The game is also a Cane's Challenge contest. If the Lions score five or more runs, all fans in attendance can redeem their game ticket or student coupon at their local participating Raising Cane's to receive a free combo with the purchase of another of equal or greater value.
 
TICKET INFORMATION
Single-game tickets can be purchased online at www.LionSports.net/Tickets or by contacting the Southeastern Athletics Ticket Office at (985) 549-5466. Office hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Fridays. The ticket booth at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field opens exactly one hour before first pitch.

General Admission tickets for Lion home games are $9 for adults and $6 for children (ages 3-12). Southeastern students are admitted free with a valid university ID card.
 
CLEAR BAG POLICY
Southeastern Athletics has instituted a clear bag policy for all ticketed events, effective with the start of the 2018 fall semester. The policy mirrors safety precautions taken upon entrance to professional and collegiate sporting venues throughout the country.
