Lions Open Road Trip at South Alabama

HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana opens a five-game road trip Tuesday, traveling to face South Alabama at Stanky Field in Mobile, Alabama. First pitch in the nonconference matchup is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

The game can be heard in the Hammond area on the flagship station of the Southeastern Sports Radio Network, KSLU 90.9 FM, online at www.LionSports.net/ListenLive and via both the Lions Gameday Experience and TuneIn Radio apps.

Fans can also keep up with all the action through streaming video (provided by South Alabama), live statistics or by following @SLUathletics on Twitter. Web links to audio, video and stats are available on the baseball schedule page at www.LionSports.net.

The Lions (11-12), who have won five consecutive games, are coming off a week that included three straight games with double-digit runs – the first such stretch for Southeastern since the 2017 season (April 30-May 2 against Stephen F. Austin and Tulane).

Southeastern is hitting .257 collectively, with 34 doubles, seven triples, 17 home runs and 47 stolen bases. The Lion pitching staff has worked to a combined 4.99 ERA, striking out 183 batters in 204 innings. Opponents are hitting .262 off Southeastern pitching.

Trey Harrington (.365), Kyle Schimpf (.318), Cody Grosse (.309) and Nick Ray (.278) pace the Southeastern offensive attack. The reigning Southland Conference Hitter of the Week, Ray leads the squad with five home runs and 26 RBI. Grosse has swiped a team-high 13 bases.

Justin Simanek (1-0, 3.18), a junior from Kent, Washington, draws the starting nod for the Lions in Tuesday's game, opposing South Alabama senior left-hander Jared Proctor (0-2, 6.48).

Ethan Wilson (.329), Carter Perkins (.329) and Santi Montiel (.278) are the Jaguars' top hitters. Wilson owns a team-leading six home runs, 23 RBI and three stolen bases.

South Alabama is hitting .255 as a team, with 28 doubles, seven triples, 23 home runs and eight stolen bases. The Jaguar pitching staff has worked to a combined 4.48 ERA, striking out 192 batters in 191 innings. Opponents are hitting .249 off South Alabama pitching.

The Jaguars split a pair of nonconference games against New Orleans this past week and then dropped 2-of-3 games at Sun Belt-foe Arkansas State.

Southeastern continues its road trip this weekend with a three-game Southland Conference series in Nacogdoches, Texas, against Stephen F. Austin.
