HAMMOND, La.  – The Southeastern men's basketball team looks to continue its climb up the Southland Conference standings, the women's basketball team will host the annual Play4Kay game, the track and field squads open competition at the Southland Conference Indoor Championships, while baseball, softball, tennis and golf will also be in action during this week in Southeastern Athletics.

Winners of five straight and nine of their last 10 games, the SLU men's basketball team (13-13, 9-4 Southland) enters the week in a tie for third place with Wednesday's opponent, New Orleans. The Lions and the Privateers meet at 7 p.m. in New Orleans.

A game ahead of SLU and UNO in the league standings is second-place Abilene Christian, which welcomes the Lions on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. The top four seeds in next month's Southland Conference Tournament receive a first-round bye, while seeds 1 and 2 receive a bye all the way to the semifinals.

To open the week, the SLU women's basketball team (9-15, 4-9 Southland) will host New Orleans for a 7 p.m. league contest on Wednesday in the University Center. In conjunction with the game, SLU will participate in the national Play4Kay initiative, dedicated to the fight against cancer.

Cancer survivors are invited to a special pre-game 6 p.m. reception in the St. Tammany Room and to be honored prior to the game. The first 150 fans and 50 students will receive a Play4Kay t-shirt. Several campus organizations are raising money through a bike-a-thon at the game. All proceeds will benefit the Kay Yow Fund, named for the late North Carolina State legendary coach who inspired the Play4Kay initiative.

Wednesday will also be a Cane's Challenge at the UC. If the Lady Lions score 50 or more points versus the Privateers, fans will be able to take their game ticket or student coupon to their local participating Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers to receive a free combo with the purchase of another of equal or greater value.

Jaclyn Scholvin will be Wednesday's Spotlight Player of the Game. The first 150 fans at the SLU-UNO tilt will receive a trading card featuring the Mandeville, Louisiana native courtesy of PRIDE. Southeastern closes the week with a 1 p.m. league contest at Abilene Christian on Saturday.

The Southeastern men's and women's track and field teams will compete in the Southland Conference Indoor Championships. The two-day meet opens this coming Sunday in Birmingham, Alabama. A live video stream of all the action from the Birmingham CrossPlex will be available via the Southland Digital Network at www.Southland.org/live and via the Southland apps available for iPhone, Android, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV and Roku.

The Lion baseball team (0-3) will look to bounce back from a tough opening weekend with four games on tap this week. On Tuesday, SLU heads to top-ranked LSU for a 6:30 p.m. contest in Baton Rouge. The Lions then return home for a three-game series versus Stony Brook, opening with a 6 p.m. game on Friday at Alumni Field.
