Lions Make 16 Three-Pointers in 88-52 Rout of Cowboys

SLU Continues Rapid Resurgence

HAMMOND, La – The reigning Southland Conference Champion Southeastern Louisiana men's basketball team made 16 three-pointers in Saturday's 88-52 route over McNeese at the University Center.

The Lions (13-13, 9-4 Southland), winners of nine out their last ten games, had five players score in double figures led by senior Moses Greenwood.

Greenwood, the Sharon, Mississippi native had 15 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for his 10th double-double of the season. The Velma Jackson grad has scored 1,359 points for his career passing Harvey Baker (1,358) for fifth all-time in SLU scoring history. The 6-7 forward also blocked two shots becoming just the third player in program history with 100 blocked shots.

Greenwood finished 6-for-9 from the field giving him 546 field goals made for his career passing Baker (543) for second all-time.

Freshman Parker Edwards, a Mandeville, Louisiana product, came off the bench and scored 14 points including three three-pointers. Senior Marlain Veal added 11 points and seven assists while juniors Von Julien and Kajon Brown each had 10.

The 16 three-pointers (16-for-27 – 59 percent) was the most by the Lions since Feb. 14, 1991, when SLU drilled 17 from beyond the arch in a 125-101 win over Southern.

The 36-point win was the most by the Lions over a Southland Conference opponent in program history shattering the record set last year in a 24-point win at Northwestern State, 86-62.

SLU shot 30-for-51 from the field for 58 percent and outrebounded the Cowboys, 38-23. The Lions also had 22 assists and shot 12-for-15 (80 percent) from the free throw line.

Southeastern held McNeese (7-18, 3-9 Southland) to 16-for-50 shooting for 32 percent tying a season-low for field goals allowed (Dec. 22 at Bradley).

"I thought tonight was a great team effort," said fifth-year SLU Ladner. "I thought we had a great approach at practice the last couple of days and it showed tonight. I thought we had a great balance on the offensive end which was good to see."

The Cowboys were led by Sha'Markus Kennedy with 20 points and seven rebounds and were without leading scorer and rebounder Roydell Brown.

"Obviously they were a little undermanned tonight without him (Brown)," said Ladner. "But we certainly know what it's like to be without some key players. Ty Brewer, who had worked himself into the starting lineup is still out with a hand injury. But McNeese is certainly a much better team than the final score and we saw that when we played at their place. I'm certainly wishing (McNeese head coach Heath Schroyer) all the best and he has done a great job with those guys."

Next up, SLU will go back on the road next week for two huge games at New Orleans (14-10, 9-4 Southland) Wednesday night at 7 p.m. and will face second-place in the Southland, Abilene Christian Saturday (21-5, 10-3 Southland) at 3:30 p.m.

Wednesday's game can be heard live in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9), online at www.LionSports.net/listenlive and via the Lions Game Day Experience, Radio FX and TuneIn Radio apps.
