Doubleheader to Serve as Southland Games of the Week

2/11/2019 4:21:00 PM

HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana's basketball doubleheader at Abilene Christian, which could have huge implications for the Southland Conference race, has been picked up for broadcast by ESPN3, the Southland office announced Monday.

Tip times for the Saturday, Feb. 23 broadcast are 1 p.m. for the women and 3:30 p.m. for the men.

The Lady Lions (9-13, 4-7 Southland) edged ACU (14-8, 7-4 Southland) Jan. 12 at the University Center, 74-71. SLU had four players score in double figures led by Celica Sterling with 21. Kyla Williams had 11 while Jaclyn Scholvin and Charliee Dugas each had 10.

The Lady Lions are currently battling for a spot in the Southland Conference tournament as they sit in eighth place going into their game Wednesday night at Incarnate Word (2-19, 2-8 Southland). The Lady Wildcats are in fourth place after losing back-to-back games at home last week to Lamar and Sam Houston State.

The Lions (11-13, 7-4 Southland) have won seven of their last eight games and are currently fourth in the Southland standings following two road wins last week at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Central Arkansas.

The Wildcats (19-5, 8-3 Southland) are second in the Southland. ACU is coming off a double-overtime loss to league-leading Sam Houston (15-8, 11-0 Southland), 80-75, Saturday night.

The rematch between the SLU men and ACU has all the makings for another good one. The two teams met Jan. 12 at the University Center with the Wildcats edging the Lions, 75-72. Abilene Christian's Peyton Ricks hit a three-pointer with two seconds left to give the Wildcats the win.

The double-header can also be heard live in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9), online at www.LionSports.net/listenlive and via the Lions Game Day Experience, Radio FX and TuneIn Radio apps.
